This is the first talk in the Covid-19 and Criminal Justice Seminar Series that aims to explore the impact of Covid-19 on various elements of the Irish criminal justice system and the response of each to the challenges that the pandemic has presented.
The event was chaired by Dr Niamh Maguire, Lecturer in Law and Criminal Justice at Waterford Institute of Technology and Dr Lorraine Bowman-Grieve, Lecturer in the Department of Arts at Waterford Institute of Technology.

Locked up during lockdown: COVID 19 and Irish Prisons

Online webinar with Governor Eddie Mullins of Mountjoy Prison.
The Irish Prison Service response to the Covid-19 crisis has been an international success story in the face of the pandemic and the approaches taken are now being emulated in other jurisdictions as a model of best practice. During this seminar Governor Mullins speaks about the efforts to keep Covid-19 out of Irish prison, giving a glimpse of the preparation and implementation of measures undertaken throughout the past 14 months. He also discusses the challenges that such an operation has raised for both staff and prisoners in Irish Prisons.
The event was chaired by Dr Geraldine Cleere, Lecturer in Law and Criminal Justice at Waterford Institute of Technology and Dr Fionnuala Brennan, Lecturer in the Department of Creative and Performing Arts at Waterford Institute of Technology.
